Shaking up new cocktails without the alcohol

Ferndale bar gets creative with mocktails.

The mocktail trend has grown steadily over the years and in Metro Detroit that is no exception. There is a speakeasy in Ferndale that lets people indulge in creative cocktails minus the alcohol. That place is Oakland Art and Novelty Company. This bar has been in Ferndale for the last decade, offering creative handcrafted cocktails and a selection of whisky and wine. Over the years the bar has added several mocktails or non-alcoholic drinks to their menu.

Sandy Levine, the owner of Oakland Art and Novelty, joined Kim DeGiuilio live from his bar to show how to make one of the Oakland’s popular mocktails, a non-alcoholic Paloma. A Paloma is typically a cocktail made with tequila and grapefruit. The non- alcoholic version at the Oakland features the traditional grapefruit juice, and their own non-alcoholic syrup that mimics the taste of tequila.
