A road less traveled: Navigating retirement planning for your unique journey

There are potholes you can avoid to be on a smooth path to success

The plan for retirement can be very different for everyone. We all know it definitely isn’t a “one size fits all”. As we get closer to that final shift in life, there is one thing that can help maintain a stream of income through your years of retirement.

Tom Jacobs, founder and owner of Jacobs Financial Services, and Terri DeBoer, Communications Director with Jacobs Financial Services, appeared on “Live In The D” to share some of what they can do to help those nearing or in retirement.

One of the main goals of Jacobs Financial Services is to help you get from where you are today to the finish line. There are a lot of milestones along the way, which means there’s a lot to consider.

“How do we take Social Security? What do we do with our pension? Do we leave the money in our company 401K or do we roll it into an IRA? So, we look at all those different milestones along the way, and we put that together into what we call the income plan,” said Jacobs.

That plan lays out exactly where money will come year by year. When it comes to their philosophy, it’s pretty simple.

“The closer you are to retirement, the less risk you need to take,” said DeBoer. “Minimizing risk is the cornerstone of our philosophy.”

As you look at retirement, one thing Jacobs wants to do is help you with a steady stream of retirement income. The idea is to think about retirement payouts like a paycheck and how much you can spend, instead of thinking of retirement savings as a pile of cash you just go to when you need it. They help you come up with plans so that you can continue spending and not run out of money.

So, how much does it cost? There are no fees. You can click the video player above to hear the explanation of how that works.
