General RV wants to change the way you travel

Your next adventure starts at the end of your driveway

Forget the checked bags, the layovers, and the front desk line. A growing number of Americans are hitting the road in a home they take with them - and if you haven’t considered an RV, Ed Buchwald thinks it’s time you did.

Buchwald is an RV specialist at General RV in Wixom, and he’s logged more than 500,000 miles behind the wheel of a motorhome. He’s owned seven of them. He knows what he’s talking about.

“I have learned to like this more than a hotel because I don’t have to unpack and pack every time I go in and leave something behind,” he said. And when you finally pull into camp? “When you get where you’re going, you’re sleeping in your own bed.”

The rigs at General RV range from compact weekenders to full coaches stretching 350 square feet - with slide-out walls that expand the living space when you’re parked and retract when you’re rolling. Kitchen, bathroom, shower, multiple sleeping areas. One reporter on a recent tour called it bigger than her first apartment. Buchwald just nodded.

“My motorhome sits in my driveway plugged in, refrigerator’s on, ready to go, the clothes are in it, and everything I need for camping is in the basement,” he said. The result is total spontaneity. His wife will say she wants to go somewhere, and they’re at the end of the driveway in minutes. Destination? “I don’t know, turn right, we’ll figure it out.”

That spirit of adventure is exactly what Buchwald wants people to embrace - even first-timers.

General RV has travel trailers starting at just $10,000 – all the way to luxury motorhomes with all the bells and whistles. Truly, something for everyone.
