Detroit Tigers fans have a new way to toast the team’s 125th anniversary this season, thanks to a collaboration between Blue Run Spirits and the Tigers that has produced a limited-edition bottle of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey.
The commemorative bottle pairs the team’s milestone year with Blue Run’s newly launched Blueprint Series bourbon, according to Katy McBrady of Molson Coors.
“The short answer is I can’t think of a better way to celebrate 125 years of Tigers baseball than with an ultra-premium Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey,” McBrady said during an appearance on Live in the D. “This year we launched our Blueprint Series Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, and it’s one of our most special items.”
The bottle’s design incorporates hand-applied details, including a butterfly modeled on Kentucky’s state butterfly, pinstripes matching the Tigers’ uniforms, a throwback logo and a 125th anniversary marker.
“I like to call picking up the bottle the first handshake with the brand,” McBrady said.
Only about 1,000 of the commemorative bottles have been made, and they are available at Total Wine locations, select Kroger and Meijer stores, and other fine wine and spirits retailers.
“We’ve only made about 1,000 of these,” McBrady said. “So, you’ve got to get them while they’re hot.”
While the commemorative packaging is limited, the Blueprint Series bourbon itself is available year-round. McBrady described the tasting profile as starting with floral and stone fruit notes before finishing smooth.
“In addition to clearing your sinuses, right on the nose, you’re going to get a little bit of soft floral and stone fruit,” she said.
