17-year-old girl shot in Chesterfield Township

Man in custody on other charges

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 17-year-old girl was shot Monday in the 25900 block of Briar Towne Boulevard in Chesterfield Township.

Police said an adult man is in custody on other charges unrelated to the shooting. Police have not yet specified those charges.

The woman is listed in critical condition, police said.

"There was an individual who was inside the house who was a witness to the event," Chief Bradley Kersten said. "He is at our police station right now. He gave us a brief description of an individual that we are looking for."

Police said they are searching for a white man in his mid-20s with a shaved head in a silver Hyundai.

Aerial video shows multiple police officers on the scene near a roped off backyard. Crime scene tape appears to block off an entire home on a corner at Briar Towne Boulevard.

The shooting was reported near 21 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue.

The victim was originally believed to be an 18-year-old woman, but police later announced she is 17 years old.

Local 4 has a crew heading to the scene to gather more information.
