Hoffa dig leads to scam attempts

Acting on tip, investigators dug for human remains believed to be Jimmy Hoffa at house in Roseville

ROSEVILLE, Mich. – Roseville Police say a scam letter is going around following a recent search for remains in a local neighborhood.

The attached letter purportedly sent by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Director Brad Wurfel. The letter claims the recent investigation into purported human remains on Kelly St. in Roseville was a ruse to mislead the media and the actual remains are located in the back yard of the senior that the letter was sent too. The letter states that law enforcement is concerned for the safety and security of the homeowner and that they will soon be contacted to arrange a time for the dig to take place.

The Roseville Police has no idea who is sending these letters; the investigation into any secretly buried human remains in Roseville is closed. The Michigan DEQ would not be the lead agency in any investigation regarding the exhumation of human remains. It is our belief that the letters in question are being sent out as a ruse to lure the homeowner out of their home to inspect the alleged grave site while an accomplice enters the home to rob whatever valuables are readily available.

The Roseville Police would like to warn all residents that this is some form of scam attempt and to not allow yourself to be talked out of your home to inspect any parts of your yard. If anyone is approached or contacted by someone claiming to be investigating the Hoffa case contact your local police immediately.
