MONROE, Mich. – One hundred fugitives wanted in Monroe County were taken off the streets in a three-month sweep which brought numerous law enforcement agencies together.
More than half of the fugitives were wanted by Michigan State Police.
"It shows the cooperation between the law enforcement agencies here in Monroe, how we can kind of work hand-in-hand. We do it all the time anyway but it's really nice when you pool up all your resources and you're able to concentrate on one problem. It shows you can get a really nice result out of it," said Lt. Tony Cuetas, of the state police.
More than 40 Michigan fugitives were picked up in Ohio including Richard Cousino, who was arrested Tuesday and wanted for home invasions.
"That line between Ohio and Michigan means nothing to us. We'll go anywhere to find you," said Deputy Rod Hartzel, of the Toledo U.S. Marshal's Service.
Todd Harbaugh is a registered sex offender who was on the run for years. He'll be sentenced in August. Ronald Wilcox, 23, was turned in by his father after he came across his picture on a wanted list.
"Somebody knows where everybody is. I mean, eventually these people will be brought to justice," said Michael Roehrig, an assistant prosecutor for Monroe County.
More fugitives will be caught if people in Monroe County continue to produce dozens of tips as they did for this sweep.
