Men break into Detroit liquor store, rip apart ATM

Thieves spent hours in Salena Liquor Lane, police say

DETROIT – A group of men broke into a liquor store Wednesday morning on Detroit's west side and spent hours ripping apart an ATM.

The thieves used a truck to smash through a brick wall at Salena Liquor Lane at 12333 Rosa Parks Boulevard. Because of a problem with the alarm company, the thieves were able to spend three hours in the store before the owner was contacted. The thieves took beer, lottery tickets and cash from an ATM.

“They had some tools. They were able to forcibly break open the front of the machine," said Detroit police commander Nick Kyriacou.

Police have not yet released detailed descriptions of the thieves.
