Walled Lake Central senior drowns in Middle Straits Lake

17-year-old jumped into water, never resurfaced

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. – A 17-year-old Walled Lake Central high school senior has drowned in Middle Straits Lake. 

Rescue crews recovered the body Thursday morning.

West Bloomfield Township Police Chief Michael Patton said the boy was boating with several other teens on the lake in West Bloomfield when he jumped into the water, but never resurfaced. A 911 call was made around 1 a.m. 

Patton said the teen had been drinking. 

Counselors and social workers will be available to meet with grieving students from noon- 2 p.m., Friday, July 22, at Walled Lake Central in the choir room and media center.
