Priest on way to give last rites at time of deadly collision with motorcyclist in Dearborn Heights

Motorcyclist dies on way to hospital; priest not considered at-fault

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – A priest who was involved in a deadly car and motorcycle crash Tuesday night in Dearborn Heights was on his way to offer last rites to another person, police sources said.

Police said the motorcyclist was heading west in the left turn lane on Van Born Road. The priest was driving east on Van Born Road when he tried to turn north onto Beech Daly Road and hit the motorcyclist, police said.

Emergency medical service officials arrived and the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital, but he died on the way there, officials said.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, officials said.

Officials said the priest was driving to offer last rites to another person when the crash happened. He did swerve in an attempt to miss the biker, police said. He is not considered at-fault and faces no charges. No ticket was issued.

The priest and the motorcyclist haven't been identified.
