A 5-year-old boy was killed Friday inside a rotating restaurant atop Atlanta's version of the Renaissance Center tower in Detroit.

According to reports, as the floor moved in the restaurant atop Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel the boy was caught "in between maybe 4 to 5 inches of space."

Much like The Summit restaurant used to do atop the cylindrical Renaissance Center in Detroit, the Sun Dial restaurant in Atlanta rotates to give diners a look around the city. The buildings were designed by the same architect, John C. Portman Jr., and were built within a couple years of each other back in the 1970s. Portman designed the Detroit hotel tower about 4 feet taller than the one in Atlanta.

The Renaissance Center's sky-high restaurant hasn't rotated in more than a decade, and perhaps that's a good thing with this news out of Atlanta.
