DETROIT – Detroit police said a man suspected of shooting a 7-year-old girl Monday is in custody.
The girl was shot in the neck Monday night on Detroit’s west side. She remains hospitalized in critical condition.

According to police, the girl’s condition has improved, but it hasn’t been upgraded.
The girl was asleep on a couch with her grandmother at a home in the 2900 block of Monterey Street around 11:15 p.m. when shots were fired. There is a bullet hole in the front window of the home from the shooting.
Police said the suspect threatened to shoot up the house.
Authorities said a police chase Tuesday morning that ended with a crash was not related to the shooting.
