BATESVILLE, Texas – A photo of a massive 13-pound bullfrog that was caught at a South Texas pond has gone viral. Some say optical illusions may be at work.

The South Texas Hunting Association posted the photo of the giant frog to Facebook on Thursday, stating that Markuz Rangel, a hunter, caught the frog at a fishing pond on the group's Batesville ranch.

The photo, which has been shared over 240,000 times, has drawn skepticism from many.

"I hate to be that guy but this is fake," one person commented. "Frogs simply don't get that big. If the frog was nearly as tall is this guy is it would weigh way more than 13 pounds. This guy has the frogs mouth in some kind of metal hook and has it on a long pole and is holding it much closer to the camera so it looks bigger."

According to Herps of Texas, the largest frog species in the US reaches between 3.5 to 6 inches.
