Macomb Township man convicted of murder in 2024 drunk driving crash

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 20-year-old Macomb Township man has been convicted of murder for his role in a 2024 drunk driving crash when he was 17.

According to authorities, Jack Robb was driving nearly 90 mph when he blew a red light in Shelby Township on Jan. 7, 2024. Police said he was driving north on Hayes Road when he struck a westbound car on 21 Mile Road.

The driver of the car, 26-year-old Austin Southwell, was killed in the crash.

Prosecutors said Robb had drank alcohol and smoked marijuana prior to the crash.

On Friday, May 1, a jury found Robb guilty of second-degree homicide and he was remanded to jail.

Robb is scheduled to be sentenced June 25 and faces a possible life sentence in prison.
