DETROIT – A 3-year-old girl was shot at a gas station Saturday on Detroit's northwest side.
London Clark was shot in the head as she sat in a car with her mom in the back seat of a vehicle at a gas station in the 15000 block of Livernois Avenue.
The bullet went through the windshield, critically injuring the girl.
"She's a sweet little girl," Kevin Clark said. "You tell her to sing whatever song, she'll sing that. You tell her to sing ABCs, she'll sing that."
London's mother had pulled into the Citgo gas station at Livernois and Puritan avenues around 3 p.m. Saturday.
Police said two men were involved in a verbal altercation inside the gas station. The altercation escalated to a fight outside and one of the men grabbed a handgun from his vehicle. He fired several shots at the other man, who hid behind the vehicle where her mother and child were, police said.
The child was shot in the head.
"They were coming to celebrate my mother's birthday. Now, it's just tragic," Kevin Clark said.
London's mother drove her to a home in the 15000 block of Prairie Street, where police transported her to a hospital. London is listed in critical condition.
The suspected shooter ran to a nearby Valero and called a friend to pick him up. The pair were arrested just blocks away from the shooting, and the weapon was also recovered.
