Trooper hospitalized after undercover Michigan State Police car was involved in multicar crash

An undercover Michigan State Police trooper was rushed to a hospital after being involved in a three-car crash.

It happened Wednesday night at the intersection of Livernois and Cadet Street in Detroit, shutting down the intersection for a while.

On Thursday morning, state police released this statement on the crash and the trooper's condition:

"Preliminary investigation revealed that a unmarked MSP SUV was traveling southwest on Cadet. As the vehicle was going through the intersection a passenger car was southeast on Livernois and struck the SUV in the intersection. The civilian driver was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries and released. The trooper driving the SUV was transported treated for a broken rib and collar bone and released. His passenger was transported, evaluated and released for minor injuries. This crash is under investigation pending review of on scene evidence, downloading of the vehicles 'black box' and crash reconstruction."
