15-year-old boy hurt by self-inflicted gunshot wound in Detroit, police say
Police say boy made up story about men exchanging shots at park
DETROIT – A 15-year-old boy was transported to a hospital after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Detroit's east side.
The incident happened after 7 p.m. Thursday near Schoenherr Street and Fairmount Drive.
Police said the boy told them he was riding his bicycle through the park when he was shot. The boy claimed a group of men were gambling and someone in the group opened fire, according to police.
The teen was rushed to a hospital.
Police said the story was made up, and the exact circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation.
The teen is in stable condition, according to police. No arrests have been made.
