DETROIT – Youth in the Metro Detroit area should start warming up their beautiful voices and dusting off those dancing shoes.

Children are invited to audition for the Detroit Youth Choir from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 4 at Marygrove College.

The DYC represented the city and captured hearts while advancing to the finals of “America’s Got Talent.”

"We can take that little bit of talent and pour some water on it and grow it,” Choir Director Anthony T. White said on “America’s Got Talent” before their first performance.

Children between the ages of 8 and 18 years old with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher are welcome to audition. Individuals interested in auditioning must also be able to make scheduled rehearsals. The choir practices four to five hours, four nights a week.

There is a $5 audition fee, and children interested in auditioning should prepare to sing a song and perform a dance and monologue of their choice.

The mission of the Detroit Youth Choir is to offer an outstanding performing art experience that develops creative skills and talent.

The group has performed at events around Detroit, throughout Michigan, and nationally -- including Detroit Pistons games, the state capitol and “The Kelly Clarkson Show!”

The nation was introduced to the Detroit Youth Choir during a June episode of “America’s Got Talent.” The choir’s moving performance earned the group a golden buzzer and sent them directly to the live shows of “America’s Got Talent.” They finished second in the finals.

Upon their return to Detroit, the choir celebrated and performed for fans in Campus Martius. At the celebration, Detroit-based foundations and members of the business community announced a $1 million endowment for the group. The endowment provides lasting support for the Detroit Youth Choir, making it possible to continue to provide positive youth development in the city.

The Detroit Youth Choir will help kick off the holiday season as the opening act of the 93rd America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade at 10 a.m. Nov. 28.
