Metro Detroit jeweler accused of wire fraud

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – Local businessman Joseph DuMouchelle was charged with wire fraud in federal court and faced a judge Thursday.

DuMouchelle, 58, is the owner of Joseph DuMouchelle Fine & Estate Jewelry Sellers, located on Merrill Street in Birmingham.

DuMouchelle was taken into custody Thursday on suspicion of wire fraud with three different customers with different kinds of jewelry.

The federal filing claims DuMouchelle didn’t pay some of the people he was doing business with.

Additionally, DuMouchelle and his wife recently filed for bankruptcy and claimed they had about $500,000 in assets and owe about $21 million to creditors.

The investigation is ongoing.
