Ann Arbor considers changing speed limit to 25 mph on all city-owned streets

Committee created to look at speed limits in Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A committee was created Wednesday night by the transportation commission to look at speed limits in the city of Ann Arbor.

The Speed Reduction Committee is tasked with reducing the speed limit to 25 mph on all city-owned streets. The goal is to make the streets safer for drivers and pedestrians.

David Crouse works from home and says speed is a problem in the area.

"You can see cars come barreling down," Crouse said. "Just about every day, I hear a screech of tires."

Many residents, however, don’t think speed reductions will work.

The committee will take the next few months researching to see if changing the speed limit would enhance safety and which roads would be changed.

Before any changes are made, the city council must approve recommendations made by the committee.
