DETROIT – Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford made a surprise donation to hurricane relief during Tuesday's telethon on Local 4.
Stafford called into the Local 4 phone bank while his wife, Kelly, was answering phones to take donations.
The Lions QB donated $50,000 to hurricane relief efforts. $25K will go to Harvey and $25K will go to Irma efforts.

Money collected will be donated to the American Red Cross relief efforts for hurricane devastation in Texas, and if needed, in Florida. Hurricane Irma is the second-strongest storm ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean, and has the entire state of Florida on high alert. The “Help 4 Hurricane Relief” telethon will conclude at 8 p.m.
The effort is in conjunction with the American Red Cross and Art Van Furniture.
Financial donations help the American Red Cross provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to those affected by disasters like Hurricane Harvey. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
