Hot grease thrown at Pontiac man during fight over eyeglasses

Victim treated at St. Joseph's hospital for burns to face

PONTIAC, Mich. – A 28-year-old Pontiac man is being treated at Detroit Receiving Hospital for burns he suffered after having hot grease thrown at his face during an argument over eyeglasses.

The victim told investigators he went to an address on Leonard Lane in the Arborview Village apartments complex to buy a pair of glasses for $50 from a 46-year-old suspect.

He said they began fighting over the glasses when the suspect threw hot grease in his face.

A relative took the man to the hospital, where he is recovering from non-life-threatening burns to his face.

Barbara Mitchell has lived in the neighborhood for more than 20 years. She said she had never heard of anything so hideous happening there before.

"This community was a good community and they have come in here and tried to clean it up as much as they can," she said.

During the course of the investigation, it was also discovered that the victim's car -- which had been left at the scene with the keys in the ignition -- was missing.

No arrests have been made.
