PORT HURON, Mich. – The Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron is temporarily closed Thursday as authorities investigate a suspicious container found nearby.

Port Huron Police say that a suspicious container was found near train tracks north of the bridge at around 7:36 a.m. Thursday. A Michigan State Police bomb squad is currently examining the container.

Police are asking people to avoid the area, and not to enter the area using Wright or Elmwood streets. Access to the roads have been blocked off as of 9 a.m. Thursday.

Boat traffic has also been halted as a precaution, Port Huron police said.

Anyone with information about the package is asked to call the Port Huron Police Department at 810-984-8415, or leave an anonymous tip by calling the CAPTURE Hotline at 810-987-6688, submitting one online here or by texting “CAPTURE” and the tip to 847411.
