DETROIT – Southbound I-75 has reopened at 9 Mile Road after the stretch of interstate was shut down earlier Tuesday morning after a deadly crash.

Michigan State Police said a driver lost control of a vehicle and struck the guardrail at the ramp to 8 Mile Road. The vehicle was blocking the right two lanes. The driver got out of his car and was looking at damage when the driver of a second vehicle could not stop in time and crashed into the first vehicle and also struck the driver that was standing outside, state police said.

The male driver of the first vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene. The two occupants of the second vehicle were transported to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital for minor injuries, police said.

The southbound side of interstate was shut down at 9 Mile Road but has since reopened to traffic.

The crash is under investigation.
