Driver in custody after 26-year-old woman killed while walking on I-94 Service Drive, police say

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A suspected hit-and-run driver has been taken into custody after a 26-year-old woman was struck and killed overnight while walking on the I-94 Service Drive in Van Buren Township, officials said.

Police were called at 12:44 a.m. Wednesday (July 27) to the North I-94 Service Drive west of Beck Road, they said.

When they arrived, officers said they found a 26-year-old woman lying unresponsive in the roadway. Firefighters and an ambulance were called to the scene, but the woman was pronounced dead.

Investigators said the woman was struck by a vehicle while walking on the I-94 Service Drive. The vehicle fled the scene, according to authorities.

Police revealed around 11 a.m. Wednesday that the driver has been taken into custody.
