1 killed, 2 injured in shootout near Detroit Riverfront, police say

DETROIT – A man was killed and two people were injured in a shootout early Wednesday morning that happened near the Detroit Riverfront on the city’s east side.

According to Detroit police, a shooting occurred at around 2:30 a.m. in the area of Joseph Campau Avenue and Atwater Street. Officials say an argument between two groups of people led to a shootout that killed one person and injured two others.

Officials say a man was shot and killed outside of his vehicle. Less than a mile away from the shooting, Detroit police conducted a traffic stop of another vehicle and discovered a man and a woman both suffering from gunshot wounds in the car.

Information from sources indicates that the argument may have been related to a drug transaction. Police say the man and woman who were injured in the shooting have been taken into custody while investigators work to determine what happened.
