EAST LANSING, Mich. – Authorities are urging people not to go to Michigan State University’s East Lansing campus Monday night amid an active shooter situation that has left at least one person dead.

People, especially those who have “loved ones on campus or adjacent to the campus,” are being asked by police to avoid East Lansing while law enforcement agencies respond to an active shooting on campus. Staff and students on campus were all asked to shelter in place as of 8:40 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13.

About an hour later, Michigan State University police said they believe there is only one active shooter. As of 10:10 p.m., several MSU buildings had been cleared and secured, but the shooter had not been apprehended.

Michigan State Police say the scene is “far too dangerous” for people other than first responders, and is asking everyone to avoid the campus.
