Police pursuit ends with driver plowing into Detroit business

No major injuries reported

DETROIT – Surveillance cameras capture the moment a driver fleeing Southfield police cruisers plowed into the Super Dollar Center on 8 Mile Road near Lahser Road.

The force of the wreck bent the frame of the building and accordioned part of the roof, the driver then took out a light pole.

Southfield police said they were trying to get the driver of the white Chevrolet SUV to pull over after he hit another car and a fence. Instead, he ran right in the middle of rush hour.

Surveillance cameras capture the crash and the aftermath where, despite being pinned in by squad cars on all sides, surveillance cameras show him trying to make a run for it. He doesn’t get very far after an officer used a taser on him.

Inside the Super Dollar Center, the damage is substantial with a gaping hole in the roof. When it first happened owner Wally Jamiel didn’t realize he had interior damage.

“We heard a big boom and I ran straight outside to look at what’s going on,” Jamiel said.

After he saw the police he went back in to see a hunk out his roof and debris all over the floor.

“Thank God nobody is hurt, that’s the main thing.”

Police said the driver who was tasered is in custody and not injured.
