A demonstrator has been charged with assaulting a police officer while demonstrating against President Joe Biden at a political rally held in Warren.

The incident occurred on Thursday (Feb. 1) as demonstrators lawfully demonstrated against Biden.

Allegedly, during that time, demonstrator Maherr Salah Jaeran, 21, assaulted the police officer.

The Melvindale native was charged with assaulting, resisting, and obstructing a police officer (Two-year felony).

The 21-year-old was charged in 37th District Court, where bond was set at $5,000.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Tuesday (Feb. 13) at 8:45 a.m.

“When an individual allegedly assaults a police officer on duty during a peaceful demonstration – they not only attack an individual but assault the very fabric of our society. Our duty as prosecutors is to ensure that such acts are met with the full force of the law,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
