It was supposed to be a supervised sleepover, but an adult who rented out the room did not stay. Police believe one friend arrived with two Glock handguns, one of which was stolen.

“I think the boy pulled the trigger, made a mistake and ran,” Mongo said.

Southfield Police Chief Elvin V. Barren said the department is doing everything it can to figure out exactly what happened. He said they are working to make contact with the adult who rented the room and the person who did not secure those two handguns.

Anyone with information is asked to call Southfield police at 248-796-5500 and reference case number 24-5073. Tips can also be made anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-Speak Up.
