GREEN OAK TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Crews battled a fire at a Livingston County manufacturing plant for several hours Saturday night.

The fire was reported at 8:35 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, at PDM Packaging at 12434 Emerson Drive in Green Oak Township.

When crews arrived, they found the fire was burning through vents in the roof in the center of the large commercial building. They began a “defensive fire attack” and called in backup from other fire stations.

The area where the building is does not have access to city water, which means water had to be shuttled to the scene with tankers. Crews also used water from ponds in the area that have dry hydrants in them to allow crews to pull water from them.

Three ladder trucks and multiple hose lines were used to get the fire under control. Officials said the fire was officially considered under control at 11:45 p.m, but crews remained on scene until 2:15 a.m. to confirm the fire was out.

Livingston County HazMat was called to the scene because various chemicals were found in the building and were involved in the fire. Officials said the chemicals were contained to the building and do not pose a hazard to the area.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials believe that it was accidental and related to manufacturing. The building was open and operating when the fire started.
