Teen boy shot by Detroit police charged with carrying a concealed weapon

DETROIT – A 16-year-old boy from Detroit has been charged in connection with an altercation with police that resulted in the teen being shot by police Thursday, April 4.

According to authorities, the incident started at about when Detroit police officers saw the teen reportedly carrying a concealed weapon near the intersection of Fenkell Avenue and Bramell Street. The boy reportedly ran when confronted. Police said while pursuing the teen, they fired at him after reportedly seeing his hand on the weapon. The boy was struck in the leg.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment and was later released.

Friday, April 5, the boy was charged with receiving and concealing a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. He was given a $3,000/10% bond.

A pretrial has been scheduled for May 29.
