16-year-old boy arrested for quadruple shooting that injured 2 women, 2 children in Detroit

Pregnant listed in critical condition

DETROIT – Police have released new information into a shooting that left two adults and two children injured on Detroit’s west side.

Detroit police Chief James White said an arrest had been made in the case.

White said during his briefing on Monday (May 6) that they’ve got a 16-year-old boy in custody for the shooting that occurred May 1 at 8:55 p.m. at a park near West Chicago and Faust Avenue.

The situation was critical for two women, who are both 18, and two small children, ages three and six, who were shot because the two women were fighting.

Police say one of the women called a friend over for help; that friend, according to White, was a 16-year-old boy who pulled out a gun and opened fire.

Both the women ended up with serious injuries.

One 18-year-old woman who is pregnant is still listed in critical condition, and the second 18-year-old woman who was hit is still in the hospital as well; her injuries are described as serious.

Thankfully, both of the kids have been treated and released and are expected to recover fully.

“We have made an arrest or a detainment of a juvenile,” said White. “The juvenile is in custody at this time, and the case remains open. We are still working to identify additional suspects in this case. At this time, as I’ve indicated, a juvenile is in custody.”

White said they’re still searching for other suspects involved in the shooting. He also clarified that neither he nor other investigators believe they’re other shooters.
