Flower Day returns to Detroit’s Eastern Market on Sunday: What to know

Flower Day to take place on May 19

This June 24, 2014, photo shows shoppers strolling through Eastern Market in Detroit. Detroit’s Eastern Market’s foods, flowers and other products require opening the wallet, but the sights, sounds and smells _ and sometimes samples _ cost nothing. The six-block public market with more than 250 vendors has been operating east of the downtown district since 1891. The market is open several days a week at certain times of the year but it’s especially popular on Saturdays, when tens of thousands of people come to walk, talk and stall among the stalls and sheds. DETROIT – The annual Flower Day event will return to Eastern Market on Sunday, a sure sign of spring in Detroit.

The event always takes place the Sunday after Mother’s Day, offering a huge array of flowers and plants for residents across the area.
