New kinetic art installation to debut in Downtown Detroit

Admission to pop-up art installation is free

DETROIT – A new kinetic art installation is set to debut in Downtown Detroit this weekend.

Bedrock’s Decked Out Detroit and Library Street Collective announced “SKALAR: Reflections on Light and Sound,” a kinetic art installation debuting on May 24 to 1001 Woodward Avenue.

Guests will experience a 30-minute intricate interplay of light and sound based on the vision of light artist Christopher Bauder and musician Kangding Ray.

The awe-inspiring visual and sound experience will open parallel to the Movement Electronic Music Festival and further celebrate Detroit’s rich history of techno music.

This marks the first presentation of SKALAR in the United States, following successful showcases in Berlin, Zurich, Mexico City, Amsterdam, and Riyadh.

“SKALAR aims to illuminate the abstract nature of human emotions and our perception of reality. It reminds us that our experiences, though internal, are no less real.” Kangding Ray adds, “Through the fusion of light and sound, SKALAR seeks to evoke pure synesthesia, blurring the boundaries between sensory experiences.”

The installation will be up from May 24 through July 28 at 1001 Woodward Ave. Admission is free.
