Iconic Temple Bar in Detroit closed indefinitely due to partial collapse

DETROIT – A popular bar in Midtown Detroit has been closed indefinitely after part of the building collapsed Friday, May 24.

Part of the front of the Temple Bar, located on Cass Avenue, crashed onto the sidewalk below. The tavern had events planned all weekend, including a party connected to the Movement festival, but those events have since been canceled.

“Temple Bar is closed until the owner can provide us an engineer’s letter saying that it is safe to occupy,” said David Bell, Detroit’s Building Safety Engineering Environmental Department director. “The health, safety and welfare of patrons and citizens is our primary focus.”
