Michigan man sentenced to decades in prison for smuggling meth, fentanyl

A 38-year-old man from Kalamazoo was sentenced to more than 27 years in federal prison for drug trafficking.

According to authorities, Michael Warren Smith Jr. had pleaded guilty in October 2024 to possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, 400 grams or more of fentanyl, and cocaine.

When his home was searched, investigators reportedly found Smith with almost half a pound of fentanyl in his pants. They also found almost a pound of methamphetamine in his bedroom. In his apartment, investigators reportedly found five pounds of methamphetamine, more than a pound of fentanyl, about a pound of cocaine and five guns.

Smith reportedly admitted the drugs belonged to him and that he intended to sell them.

Smith was sentenced to 327 months in prison.
