Suspect arrested in shooting of Detroit rapper Skilla Baby, police say

Rapper injured in Redford Township shooting on May 22

A suspect has been arrested after Detroit rapper Skilla Baby was injured in a shooting in Redford Township last month, police said.

The arrest comes after Redford Township investigators, with assistance from other agencies, identified a suspect vehicle connected to the shooting, which happened near 8 Mile and Centralia at around 7 p.m. on May 22.

On Wednesday, June 4, the registered owner of that suspect vehicle was taken into custody by Detroit police. Authorities then conducted a search warrant at the suspect’s Detroit home, where they found a firearm.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the case, and the suspect faces felony weapons charges, according to Redford Township police.

During the shooting, Trevon Gardner, the 26-year-old rapper who goes by Skilla Baby, was struck three times while driving his vehicle in Redford Township.

The suspect allegedly fired more than 20 rounds at him from a dark-colored SUV, and after being shot, Skilla Baby crashed his car, police said.

At the time of the shooting, a source told Local 4 that Skilla Baby had been driving alone, and those close to him believed he may have been targeted.
