WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Storms returned to Metro Detroit early this afternoon, causing flooding in some areas.
The showers caused flooding on Schaefer near I-75 in Melvindale, which can be seen in the video at the top of this article.
Some areas picked up 1 to 2 inches of rain in a short period, and radar indicates that areas from Melvindale to Lincoln Park likely picked up about 2.6 inches of rain, according to unofficial rain totals.
Inkster, Wayne, Taylor and Romulus have likely picked up about an inch.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for parts of Wayne County until 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
Additional rainfall amounts up to .5 inches are expected in the area on Wednesday, which could cause additional minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, according to the National Weather Service.
Storms will likely continue in Southeast Michigan in the afternoon and evening hours.
The entire region is under a marginal risk for severe weather, and isolated flooding is possible due to pockets of heavy rain.
Discrete stronger storms could appear around 2 p.m. and will become more widespread by 4 p.m.
Those storms are then expected to fizzle out by 8 p.m.
