The primary election is on Aug. 5, 2025.

Residents across Metro Detroit will have the opportunity to vote on various mayoral, city council and commission positions in multiple communities in the primary election.

In Detroit, Pontiac, Dearborn Heights, and Hamtramck, there will be no incumbents in the mayoral races. Nine candidates are vying to succeed Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, who is departing after three terms to run for governor.

Voters will also decide on various city council and commission positions in multiple communities, including Detroit, Hamtramck, Westland, Livonia, Taylor, Plymouth, Pontiac, and Sterling Heights.
