At least 6 Oak Park stores accused of selling fake high-end items, police say

OAK PARK, Mich. – Michigan State Police executed search warrants at multiple Oak Park businesses on Tuesday after receiving a tip about several stores selling counterfeit high-end items.

Detectives received a tip that at least six stores in the Greenfield Plaza at 217000 Greenfield in Oak Park were selling counterfeit high-end merchandise, according to state police.

Undercover detectives were able to identify and buy counterfeit items as part of the investigation.

On Tuesday, July 29, a search warrant on the stores.

Authorities are in the process of seizing the counterfeit merchandise.

“Often these counterfeit items contain harmful chemicals that can endanger their health,” said Michigan State Lt. Mike Shaw. “The saying of ‘it seems too good to be true’ normally is true. Make sure the items you purchase are legit; your health may depend on it.”

The investigation is ongoing.

When police were searching the stores earlier on Tuesday, they had said there would be a large police presence due to a fraud investigation.

At the time, they told people that if they were approaching the stores, they should expect to be contacted by officers.
