City of Oak Park, Henry Ford Health team up to offer COVID-19 vaccine appointments
OAK PARK, Mich. – In partnership with Henry Ford Health System, the city of Oak Park is providing COVID-19 vaccine appointments at the city’s Municipal Complex. Officials said registration is open to Oak Park residents 65 years of age and older (with or without health issues) as well as residents between 50-64 years of age who have health issues. Once they qualify, residents will receive a phone call or text to confirm their appointment. “We’re doing what we can to return Oak Park to the safe and healthy community we all know and love. The 2020-21 school year has been a unique one for football players, whose shortened season started, then stopped and then started again. To make up for the odd year, the Michigan High School Athletic Association allowed every team to make the playoffs. The Oak Park Knights weren’t expected to make it to playoffs, but the team is two wins away from a state title. “It’s a great feeling, for real, to come back and be able to help the team,” Rayshawn said. Oak Park High School alum awarded Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences
OAK PARK, Mich. – Stanford University Professor Paul Milgrom didn’t know he had won a Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences because he was asleep. “My phones were all set up for Do Not Disturb...The co-winner, Bob (Robert) Wilson, is also my neighbor across the street. He came over at about 2 a.m. and was pounding on my door," said Milgrom, who graduated from Oak Park High School. Milgrom and Wilson, who is also a professor at Stanford University, won the Nobel Prize for improvements in auction theory. “Milgrom designed a general theory of auctions that takes into consideration common values of auction markets as well as private values, which vary from bidder to bidder,” read the release.

Vigil held to honor and remember Oak Park students killed in collision
OAK PARK, Mich. – Friends and family members gathered Sunday to remember the two Oak Park High School students killed in a Friday night crash. Police said six Oak Park High School students were in the vehicle the driver was speeding and jumped the curb. The vigil was held Sunday at the David H Shepherd Park, located on Church Street in Oak Park. An Oak Park High School basketball player is still in critical condition. The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office announced Tuesday the 15-year-old boy faces a manslaughter charge, as a juvenile. Oak Park man charged in road rage incident involving gunfire
OAK PARK An Oak Park man has been charged in connection with a road rage incident involving gunfire. He was given a $20,000 personal bond and is scheduled to appear in court at 1 p.m. on Aug. 31. According to police, on July 30 at around 5:42 p.m. Ferndale officers responded to the area of eastbound Eight Mile Road near Livernois for a possible shooting. Officers met the complainant in a parking lot near Eight Mile Road and Woodward Avenue. After an investigation Goriel was arrested several hours later by Ferndale police detectives.

Oak Park School District teacher Owen Bondono has been named the 2020-2021 Michigan Teacher of the Year (MTOY). The Michigan Department of Education said Friday Bondono learned he was named Teacher of the Year during a virtual conference call meeting with all Regional Teachers of the Year. Bondono will be entering his sixth year of teaching English language arts in the fall at Oak Park High School 9th Grade Learning Community. State Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice said the Michigan Teacher of the Year program is more than finding the best teacher, as that would be an impossible task. The Michigan Teacher of the Year is an important advocate and ally for teachers and students, Dr. Rice said.

MoGo bike sharing expands in Detroit, southern Oakland County
DETROIT The MoGo bicycle sharing system is expanding in Detroit and southern Oakland County. MoGo launched in Downtown Detroit during the spring of 2017. OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Two drivers were killed on eastbound I-696 in Oakland County when two cars struck them while they were standing outside their vehicles following a minor crash, police said. The two drivers had been involved in a minor crash around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday in the eastbound lanes of I-696 between the Woodward Avenue and Coolidge Highway exits, according to authorities. “A minor crash -- two male individuals get out of their vehicles waling around and another vehicle comes through and hits them,” Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said. “Right now we believe we have four vehicles involved, two male fatalities,” Shaw said. “If you’re involved with a traffic crash, it’s just a traffic crash,” Shaw said.
