Caught on video: Porch pirate with DoorDash disguise strikes Macomb County neighborhood

Ring doorbell footage caught the porch pirate swiping a package containing medication off of family’s doorstep

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a thief posing as a DoorDash delivery driver was caught on camera stealing packages off of neighbors’ porches in a Macomb Township subdivision.

The thefts occurred around noon on Thursday (Aug. 7) afternoon in the Sawmill Creek subdivision, located off 24 Mile Road.

Ring doorbell footage caught the porch pirate swiping a package containing medication off of one family’s front doorstep, before stuffing it into a DoorDash delivery bag.

“When he left, we checked the porch and there was nothing there, so we looked back on the Ring camera and noticed there was a package that was right on the chair and he had taken it,” said one of the family members, who asked not to be identified.

One neighbor said he noticed the car and the suspect in the video driving up and down the street, going door to door with the bag.

“I see him go to the corner house and back to his car, and then I just looked again, and they were just driving down the street,” said Fred Hakim. “I didn’t know what he was doing, if he was just delivering packages or food.”

“It was just kind of shocking,” the family member said. “This is just a fairly safe neighborhood. We don’t really have a lot of crime over here; we’re pretty familiar with the people that roam around and the neighbors around here, so it was just very shocking.”

In the video, the suspect is seen getting into the passenger seat of a dark colored Ford Fusion.

Anyone with information regarding the thefts is encouraged to contact the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up or visit 1800speakup.org.
