WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Several people were injured after a driver traveled the wrong way on the Lodge Freeway early Sunday morning.
The crash happened on Aug. 17 just before 2 a.m. on the Lodge near Grand River Avenue.
According to Michigan State Police, a 27-year-old man was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of the Lodge freeway when he struck a car head on. This crash then led to several crashes involving five other cars.
Some passengers suffered serious injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Police said the 27-year-old showed signs of impairment at the scene. State police requested a blood draw from the driver.
The investigation is ongoing.
“It appears that the wrong way driver was impaired and this led to the crash,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “There is no reason to drive impaired with all the options available to get around. We are very fortunate that there were not any deaths in this crash.”
