DETROIT – Amir Khalid has been charged with a fatal car crash that killed two children and seriously injured another child in Detroit.
The incident occurred on Saturday (Aug. 23) around 12:30 a.m. when police alleged that Khalid was traveling north on Gratiot Avenue at over 80 miles per hour when he struck the victim’s vehicle as they were turning from Gratiot Avenue to travel east on August Street.
Police said the victims inside the vehicle were a woman and three children, which included an 8-year-old girl and two 16-year-old girls.
Officials said two of the children were fatally injured in the crash, and the other 16-year-old girl was seriously injured.
Police said Khalid has been charged with two counts of reckless driving causing death, and one count of reckless driving causing serious impairment.
