Since its initial scheduled reopening on Aug. 24, the Road Commission for Oakland County has been providing daily updates on the ongoing construction.

On Thursday, Aug. 28, RCOC said the intersection will “likely” not reopen until after Labor Day.

The department is working with a Canadian National (CN) paving contractor to redo some parts of the restored railroad until it’s safe for cars to cross.

“The RCOC has zero control over railroads,” the department said on Facebook Thursday. “We cannot penalize or fine them for the closure length or how the work was performed. The railroad owns the crossing through the roadway; it existed before the road/intersection. Railroads are governed by federal law. We continue to do our best to work with them.”

Detours

RCOC provided the following detours for drivers:

  • Joslyn Road: Waldon Road to Baldwin Road to Walton Boulevard, back to Joslyn Road and vice versa.
  • Brown Road: Giddings Road to Waldon Road to Baldwin Road, back to Brown Road and vice versa.
