WESTLAND, Mich. – The family of a woman killed Saturday night at a Westland apartment complex say she died in a murder-suicide.
Parents of 20-year-old Sarah Carroll say her ex-boyfriend shot and killed her at the apartment complex on Drew Circle Drive before taking his own life.
Westland Police still haven’t released any details about what led up to the shooting.
Jennifer Carroll said she learned her daughter’s ex-boyfriend had been stalking her for the past two months. She said Sarah was trying to obtain a personal protection order but had never confided in her about what she was going through.
“To other parents – watch your kids,” Jennifer said. “Try to get more into their life, try to get them to be open and talk to you.”
Friends and family came together for a balloon release in Sarah’s memory at the apartment complex Sunday evening.
Her parents describe her as funny, loved by her friends, and career-driven. Sarah’s father, James Carroll, said she was studying at Schoolcraft College to become a physician assistant.
“She was loved by everybody. Everybody she met,” James said. “She was wonderful. I’m going to miss my baby.”
“She was alive, she was funny, she was smart, she had everything going for her,” Jennifer said.
The Westland Police Department is planning to release more information on the investigation on Monday or Tuesday.
A GoFundMe has been started to help Sarah’s family pay for funeral expenses. Donations can be made here.
