Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan (Great Lakes National Cemetery)
HOLLY, Mich. – A veteran cemetery in Michigan had to cancel its Veterans Day ceremony due to the government shutdown.
Great Lakes National Cemetery, located in Holly, made the announcement on social media on Nov. 5, just less than a week before the ceremony was scheduled to be held.
The cemetery holds two ceremonies each year, attended by thousands -- one on Memorial Day and the other on Veterans Day. This year, the Veterans Day ceremony scheduled for Nov. 11 was canceled due to the government shutdown and lack of funding.
The government shutdown entered its 36th day on Wednesday, making it the longest in U.S. history.
