Man arrested in series of Waterford Township–Pontiac home invasions after operation ‘Kicked-In’

Several victims reported their homes were broken into during early morning hours when no one was home

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Prentice Montrell Slaton, who was involved in a series of Waterford Township-Pontiac home invasions, has been arrested following operation “Kicked-In.”

Home invasions near the Waterford-Pontiac border over the past few weeks prompted the launch of operation “Kicked-In,” a special investigation by the Special Operations Unit (SOU).

This unit includes detectives from Waterford and White Lake townships.

Police said several victims reported their homes were broken into during early morning hours when no one was home.

Officials said the suspect gained entry by kicking in the doors.

Police said one victim, who was home during the incident, described the suspect as a Black man with long dreadlocks and provided security camera footage.

Detectives conducting surveillance near Huron Street and Telegraph Road were notified of a break-in on Ruth Avenue, just east of Telegraph Road, on the Pontiac side of the border.

Special Operations Detectives responded and gathered information from the victim.

Using information from the Ruth Avenue break-in and analysis of similar recent crimes, detectives said they located a suspect and continued surveillance.

On Friday, Oct. 31, at about 7 a.m., detectives said they observed two men enter a vehicle near Waterly Avenue and Voorheis Avenue in Waterford.

Police said the vehicle traveled east into Pontiac and was stopped with help from Oakland County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Officials said the passenger, Slaton, 36, was found with items stolen from the Ruth Avenue home invasion and a previous Waterford break-in.

Detectives learned the driver lived at a home on Waverly, where Slaton had been staying for weeks.

A search warrant executed at that home uncovered more stolen items and evidence.

On Monday, Nov. 3, police said the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office charged Slaton with one count of second-degree home invasion, a 15-year felony.

Slayton was arraigned in the 51st District Court, with bond set at $25,000 cash or surety.

Police said Slayton is currently on parole for similar offenses. The driver was released pending further investigation.

The investigation continued after the arrests.

Additional analysis and information linked Slaton to more home invasions in Waterford and Pontiac.
