Wayne State launches $20M study on cannabis for veterans’ mental health Study aims to leverage THC and CBD for veteran mental health
DETROIT – Wayne State University is launching a critical new study to support veterans struggling with PTSD and depression.
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, nearly 4,300 Michigan veterans lost their lives to suicide between 2001 and 2022.
To address this crisis, Wayne State secured nearly $20 million in grants from the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency.
The research will explore how marijuana’s main compounds -- THC and CBD -- might improve veterans’ mental health and quality of life.
Dr. Leslie Lundahl and Dr. David Ledgerwood spoke with Jay Scott Smith on Local 4 Live about the new initiative.
